Getting your REAL ID just got easier! The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) has announced that Saturday appointments are now available at the Bonny Oaks Driver Services and Reinstatement Center, located at 6502 Bonny Oaks Dr., for current Tennessee credential holders seeking a REAL ID.

This expansion of Saturday hours, which began statewide on March 22, will continue until the May 7, 2025 REAL ID enforcement deadline.  This initiative is designed to help residents obtain their REAL IDs before the federal mandate takes effect.

It’s important to note that these Saturday appointments are exclusively for individuals who already possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or identification card. Those without a current Tennessee credential must visit during regular weekday hours.

Appointments are mandatory for Saturday service; walk-ins will not be accommodated.  You can schedule your appointment now by visiting tnrealid.gov.

When attending your appointment, remember to bring the required documentation: proof of U.S. citizenship or legal presence, proof of your Social Security Number, two proofs of Tennessee residency, and, if applicable, certified legal documents supporting any name changes.

Remember, all documents must be originals or certified copies; photocopies will not be accepted.

TDOSHS strongly recommends utilizing the online pre-approval portal at tnrealid.gov to pre-approve your documents. This can significantly reduce your in-person processing time and potentially eliminate the need for repeat visits.

The REAL ID Act, passed in 2005, establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards. This is a federal mandate designed to enhance security and protect your identity.

Starting May 7, a REAL ID or other federally approved identification, such as a passport, will be required to access federal buildings, military bases, nuclear power plants and to board commercial flights within the United States. For more information, visit tnrealid.gov.
