Agnes Laurette Dumas Penny was born April 15, 1919. She was raised in Chicago, IL and attended school there until her senior year in high school when her dad, Dr. Paul L. Dumas, Sr, and her mother, Mary Wilson Dumas, had to leave the big city because of his asthma and the severe pollution in Chicago at that time. The family moved back to his hometown in Paris, TN.
Ms. Agnes, as she is affectionately known today, lived in Paris, TN for over 60 years where she married, raised a family, and became well-known for her good cooking. At age 80 she had major surgery; and in the Fall of 1997, she moved to Chattanooga to reside with her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia P. and Fred T. Yarbrough. Some of her favorite pastime activities included cooking, reading, watching TV and mastering puzzle books. She especially enjoyed her role as family matriarch for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
