CHATTANOOGA—The Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators, along with the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, are holding a town hall meeting for Chattanooga residents to come and discuss their concerns with state lawmakers.
TBCSL members, like Chattanooga Representative Yusuf Hakeem, say this is an opportunity for the greater Hamilton County community to hear what their elected officials have been working on and provide input to help set their priorities for next year: “We have not forgotten who we serve and represent: our constituents. We have a responsibility to continue working together to improve our health care for the average citizen, provide a safe and quality education for our children and make economic upward mobility the norm, not the exception. We must hear the voices of the people we serve and be held accountable to them.”
The town hall meeting will be held Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E M L King Blvd. TBCSL Chairman Antonio Parkinson said, “the best part of being elected is to be able to hear from the people. Our upcoming town hall meeting in Chattanooga allows us to do just that. I’m thankful to Rep. Hakeem for allowing the Tennessee Black Caucus to share space with him in his district for this wonderful event.”
