Frankfort, KY Saturday, November 6, 2021 – In their final home game this season, the Kentucky State University Thorobreds booked 63 total points en route to shutting out their arch rival, Central State University, running all over the Marauders, like a Derby Day horse at Churchill downs. En route to the Senior Day victory, KSU ran the ball 71 times for 426 total yards rushing and seven touchdowns, while completing just three of only four passes for 71 total yards passing and two touchdowns.
“I’m just proud of the young men, proud of the seniors. The last time central State played a football game at Kentucky State, the score was central 24, Kentucky State 6. So, proud of these seniors we turned some things around [from that game],” said KSU’s vindictive sounding head coach, Charlie Jackson.
The victory gave the Thorobreds a regular season ending record of 6-4 (4-2 SIAC), a post season, Saturday, November 13 game versus the Erskine Flying Fleet, and Jackson another reason to enjoying his 45th birthday celebration.
The KSU-CSU game was just one of several rivalry games played across America, last Saturday, including the game in which the Tennessee Volunteers (Vols) defeated their arch rival, the Kentucky Wildcats, 45-42, in a see saw battle on the road, at Kroger field, in Lexington, KY.
This is Kentucky’s third consecutive loss, after entering the game with a 6-2 (4-2 SEC) record and a very slim chance at being crowned champions of the SEC’s Eastern division.
“Just a great night for our guys. All the effort, work, that they put into it, really proud of their effort and energy tonight, continuing to compete for 60 minutes,” said Tennessee’s Head Coach Josh Heupel. He also said, “There’s a lot of things that we [could’ve done] better on both sides of the line of scrimmage, but overall, really happy.”
